Employment Criteria
Minimum employment criteria for all Peralta Colleges鈥 student workers:
- Be admitted and enrolled as a student in the Peralta Colleges
- Be authorized to work in the United States
- Enrolled during the previous Spring semester in order to work as a student worker during the Summer session or enrolled in the Summer session
- Comply with applicable District policies and procedures
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be not currently employed within the Peralta District as a short-term, temporary employee, adjunct faculty or in any other employment category, except Student Trustee
- Pass the appropriate background check.
Hiring Notice 鈥 Tutor
Minimum requirements to work as an LRC tutor:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be authorized to work in the United States
- Minimum of a 鈥淏鈥 letter grade in the subject area you are interested in tutoring.
- Recommendations from at least one instructor for the subject(s) in which interested in tutoring.
- Current enrollment within Peralta Colleges in at least one course (can be a credit or non-credit course).
- Comply with applicable District policies and procedures as outlined in hiring paperwork
- Cannot be currently employed within the Peralta District as a short-term, temporary employee, adjunct faculty or in any other employment category, except Student Trustee
- Must be enrolled/successfully complete Educ 510A/B, Tutor Training, 0 unit course.
Necessary skills:
- Exhibit thoughtful, strong, personable communication skills
- Critical thinking: Foster a desire for self improvement, reflection, and growth
- Must demonstrate initiative or self-starting abilities: display drive, purpose and determination
- Demonstrate timeliness, dependability, and responsiveness to other staff
- Willingness to collaborate with students, other tutors, front desk staff, and instructors.
- Exhibit curiosity for developing strategizing skills
- Curiosity and passion for your subject
Desired skills:
- Demonstrate a desire to collaborate and engage with students and coworkers in a professional way
- Show initiative, resourcefulness, preparedness, and multitasking skills
- Adaptability and capacity to engage with students to best fit their needs
- Express interest in collaborating with other student workers on projects at the LRC

Hiring Notice - Front Desk
Minimum requirements to work as an LRC Front Desk Staffer:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- At least one recommendation from a professor at 91约炮. You may include a recommendation from a previous educator.
- Current enrollment within Peralta Colleges in at least one course (can be a credit or non-credit course).
Necessary skills:
- Critical thinking: Foster a desire for self improvement, reflection, and growth
- Must demonstrate initiative or self-starting abilities: display drive, attentiveness, and determination
- Demonstrate timeliness, dependability, and responsiveness to other staff
- Exhibit curiosity for developing strategizing skills
- Express an affinity for community-centered thinking and have the ability to create a welcoming environment in an online space
Desired skills:
- Exhibit thoughtful, engaging, and resourceful professional abilities or be open to actively working on them.
- Willingness to collaborate with students, tutors, other front desk staff, and instructors.
- Show initiative, preparedness, and multitasking skills
- Adaptability and capacity to engage with students in a variety of ways
- Express interest in collaborating with other student workers on projects at the LRC
- Display interpersonal skills by being flexible, assertive, and caring
91约炮鈥檚 pay rate for student workers/tutors is the local minimum wage, which will be $18.07/hour in Berkeley, California.
LRC Application for Front Desk:
The LRC supports tutoring across the curriculum in multiple subjects as requested by academic departments. We tend to accept applications, depending on need, for the following departments: Social Sciences (Sociology & History), Multi-Media Arts, American Sign Language, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Education, Health and Human Services, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business and Modern Languages.
The LRC advances the vision and mission of 91约炮 by providing an inclusive, diverse and collaborative learning environment that supports students鈥 engagement and contribution to the learning and exploration of academic subjects. The LRC provides one- on-one tutoring, group tutoring, study rooms and learning resources, both online and in-person, to help students become independent learners, succeed in their courses and reach their college, career and transfer goals.
