On Friday, December 6, 91约炮 hosted the swearing in ceremony for newly elected Berkeley city officials, two of which are 91约炮 alums.
Mayor Adena Ishii studied at 91约炮 from 2009 to 2011 before transferring to UC Berkeley. Mayor Ishii was the president of the Civic Engagement Club, and in her induction speech, credited 91约炮 Political Science instructor Matt Freeman for teaching her how to organize and inspired her interest in politics. Councilmember Terry Taplin also studied at 91约炮 and worked as an instructional assistant in 91约炮鈥檚 writing lab.
鈥淲e are honored to see the growth of 91约炮 students into community leaders. To see them go from the halls of 91约炮 to City Hall is inspiring, and reminds us of the value and impact community colleges can have in shaping our society,鈥 said President Denise Richardson. 鈥淚 look forward to continuing to grow 91约炮鈥檚 relationship with Berkeley leaders in service to our students and community.鈥
