91Ô¼ÅÚ and The New Parkway Theater Present 100 Years of Movies

The 91Ô¼ÅÚ Humanities Program is partnering with  to present 100 Years of Movies with 91Ô¼ÅÚ, showcasing classic films every Monday night through the month of February. These films are commonly taught in 91Ô¼ÅÚ Humanities courses, and each film will be introduced by 91Ô¼ÅÚ faculty offering insights into the historical and cultural context behind the film.  

"It's going to be a fun opportunity to check out some major works of world cinema, get a feel for 91Ô¼ÅÚ's Humanities Program, and enjoy the fabulous New Parkway Theater," says Laura Ruberto, co-chair of Arts and Cultural Studies at 91Ô¼ÅÚ.

M (Fritz Lang, 1931, in German with English subtitles)  

Peter Lorre plays a serial killer in Berlin in this psychological thriller that defined the genre and showed how new sound technology could unsettle audiences.

Carol (Todd Haynes, 2015, in English)  

Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara star in this stylish throwback melodrama adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel about queer desire and forbidden romance.

In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-Wai, 2000, in Cantonese with English subtitles)  

Set in 1960s Hong Kong—but with the look and feel of Shanghai cinema from the 1930s—Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung smolder as impossible lovers, overwhelmed with desire and restraint.
